The 2014 edition of the annual Trout and About food and craft festival attracted record crowds to Stockbridge today. The festival was started back on 2008 to promote local produce and crafts to a wider public, and the event has gone from strength to strength, with some 5000 visitors attending in recent years. The variety of stands is astounding, and the range of food and drink wonderful. Added to all this, live music from both the Andover Town Band and other local musicians really add to the atmosphere, plus the presence of farm animals and vintage tractors make this a day out for all the family.
All this Trout and About activity happens while the busy High Street remains open to passing traffic, including the busy farm vehicles engaged in the harvest, and classic vehicles out for a run. The variety of sights and sounds make this event quite unique, and accounts for the ever increasing popularity of the day. In order to cater for the crowds, parking is organised out of town in fields kindly set aside by local farmers, and a free bus service run by the enthusiastic owners of vintage winchester “King Alfred” buses, another special experience for those who grew up travelling on these traditional british vehicles.
Trout and About has become a special day out in the life of the village, and the 2014 edition has been another step up in terms of the breadth of produce and skills on display, so the event will surely go from strength to strength.
