We are very grateful to everyone in the Build Team who helped us on the project back in 2012; we were lucky to find and work with a great bunch of talented people, whose various contributions and subtle changes made the house what it has become – a delightful, comfortable and welcoming place to be, with a great character. William Penny, Architect, who really spotted the opportunity to do something different, and not only came up with the concept, but looked after the Planning aspects to deliver the approval to build the house to its revised design.

Dave Fudge, Test Valley Groundworks, who did the initial heavy work of digging and concreting the new garage base, then clearing the old “triple garage” so that we could start the build proper.

Paul Bowhill, Brickwork, a fountain of knowledge and good contacts, and our general fixer. Also a very talented brickie, poetry in motion no less, and his work shows off the lovely local Michemersh bricks to perfection.

Michelmersh Brick, handmade local bricks from the Test Valley; we had wanted to use local materials, and despite looking at other ranges of bricks, kept coming back to the look and feel of the locally made ones, and once we saw them being laid, we knew we had made the right choice.

Derek van der Plank, Scaffolding, who cheerfully came back a number of times to create ever higher scaffold as the timber frame developed, at short notice.

Will & Steve from Roundwood of Mayfield, Will did the initial visits on site and showed us around the workshops at Mayfield, and his advice on the style and detail of the design was spot on. Steve and his team managed the sitework very effectively, and it was a testament to the quality of the work throughout that all the pre-cut timbers slotted together perfectly first time when delivered to site. Excellent.

Mick Caulfield Roofing, Mick and his boys made a superb job of the complicated roof air venting to produce a beautiful, traditional looking but very modern engineered roof, lovely attention to detail.

Orchard Homes, Nick Eagle, who supplied excellent advice and support once we got to the fitting out stages; all his calls were spot on, and his enthusiasm really helped carry the project on towards completion.

Steve Whitewick Carpentry, whose team very rapidly fitted the ground floors and studwork in order to move the project into the latter stages, no fuss, just guys who are organised and know what they are all doing.

Guy, Lush Plumbing, who gave very good advice on the pro’s & con’s of the various heating systems we considered, and spent a long time discussing the detailed design with the manufacturer’s. Excellent work on site, and everything functions as it should, but is all neatly tucked away.

Roger & Dave from Prolec, who specified and installed the electrical systems. They had fun drilling big holes through solid oak, and the amount of cables behind the scenes was stunning, but it has all come together perfectly.

ABM Dry Lining, Andy’s lads had the job of packing in 120mm of Cellotex into the timber frame and then plasterboarding it all, suddenly it looked like a house and everything finished off smooth with no cracking, good job.

Stairway Joinery of Poole came up with the design and manufacture of the winding stairwell, making the best use of the space available, another quality job that looks superb.

C C Carpentry, Chris (Fred) and Craig did a great job finishing off the detail carpentry, fitting the engineered oak floor and the kitchen, and it was good to see them getting creative and enjoying a different kind of build.

Cranbourne Stone, Howard, Jo and their team gave us excellent advice on how best to finish the steps front and rear; we went for their Downton Limestone which looks superb, and they even sandblasted in our initials and the year of build for us – very nice touch, and its not every year you build a house.
